One of the best ways to save time and money on your upcoming move in the Miami area is simply to not move so much stuff. There are almost certainly items around your current home that you don’t need or don’t want anymore – so why take the time to move them to your new place? If you can do the job of tossing out some of those things before you move, you can make the whole moving process easier and get rid of some clutter at the same time.
There are a few places to look when thinking about things that don’t need to make the trip with you to your new Miami home. Make sure to allow for some time before moving day arrives to sort through these possible throw-out candidates so that you don’t have to rush at the last minute.
Don’t Move Much Food
Go through your pantry and make sure that you are only moving items which you will be able to use after you move and get settled in to your new place. Even if some things aren’t going to expire, it might make more sense to just get rid of them so that they don’t take up space during the move. One idea is to give away your canned goods to a local food bank. You will be doing something to help others, and making your move easier at the same time. Most likely, the total value of the food you give away won’t be very significant, and might even be made up for in the money you save by consolidating your move.
Go Through Your Closet
Clothes can take up a surprising amount of room during a move, so take a close look at your closet ahead of time and get rid of things you no longer want. A closet clean-out is a good idea from time to time anyway, so why not do it ahead of your move and save some space in the boxes. Again, this is an opportunity to help others in the Miami community at the same time by donating your old clothes to a charity who can get them to people in need.
Garage and Attic Clutter
If there are two places around the house most-likely to accumulate clutter over the years, it is the garage and the attic. Before you pack up everything in these two spaces and take it all with you, think it through and make sure all of those goods are necessary and will have a spot in your new house. If necessary, you could hold a garage sale prior to moving to get rid of some of those extra items, and maybe even make a few bucks at the same time to help with moving expenses.
One of the golden rules of moving – whether in Miami or anywhere else – is to not move things that you don’t want in your new home. It would be a waste of time and resources to get to your new house and then throw away some of these items. Make time before the move to review what you have and get rid of those things that you don’t want to take with you.
